Discretionary grants are the part of the skills levy that each SETA awards through **funding windows**. A window is a set period in which employers, training providers and other eligible organisations apply for funding for learnerships, skills programmes, internships, bursaries and similar projects. Each of the 21 SETAs sets its own windows, and they rarely open at the same time. The deadline is 30 April each year. **Discretionary grants** are different. They are competitive, project-based and awarded at each SETA's discretion within the windows it announces. The employer's side of the levy and the mandatory grant are covered by Atlan on atlan.co.za. ## What a Typical Application Needs This section grows as more window notices are read. So far, BANKSETA's Career Development Practitioners' workshops window takes applications only through its own SIMS online system, and only from public universities, universities of technology, TVET colleges and CET colleges — not from private employers. Other SETAs' typical requirements (proof of levy payment, company registration, B-BBEE certificate, tax compliance status, a project plan, an accredited provider's details) will be added here once their own notices are read, and only what each notice actually asks for. ## How to Use This Page This page is checked weekly, and more often in grant season. Each row carries its own source — always confirm a window on the linked notice before relying on it, since a window can close early or its terms can change.
